24 Hours of Le Mans: RLR MSport Takes Top LMP2 Position in First Practice Session

Reigning ELMS LMP3 Champions RLR MSport set the fastest time in the 17-car strong LMP2 category during the FP1 session for the 93rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Patrick Pilet set a 3m36.888 lap around the 13.6km La Sarthe circuit, the LMP2 Pro/Am car was 0.237s ahead of the no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca, which was the fastest of the eight LMP2 entries at the end of the three-hour session, with Nick Yelloly posting a 3m37.125.

The no45 Algarve Pro Racing was third quickest and second fastest in LMP2 Pro/Am, after Alex Quinn posted a 3m37.342, just 0.035s ahead of the no48 VDS Panis Racing Oreca of Esteban Masson and 0.390s ahead of the no29 TDS Racing Oreca in 5th.

The session was red flagged when the no63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG LMGT3, which is the ELMS LMGT3 Champions invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, went off into the barriers at the Dunlop Chicane. Stephen Grove was OK, but the car suffered heavy front-end damage.

Of the other two ELMS LMGT3 entries, the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari finished in 8thplace in the class standings, with Daniel Serra posting a 3m57.794 lap, 0.546s behind the fastest LMGT3 car, the no78 Akkondis ASP Racing Lexus.

The other ELMS entry was the no150 Richard Mille AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3, with 4 Hours of Le Castellet winner Riccardo Agostini setting a 3m58.013s, which was good enough for 12th place, out of 24 cars taking part in FP1.
