Three from Three in Qualifying for Albuquerque and United Autosports

For the third time in three races, Filipe Albuquerque in the n°22 United Autosports Oreca 07 secured the pole position with a lap of the Circuit Paul Ricard in 1:56.951.

The session was interrupted by a red flag to recover the n°20 High Class Racing Oreca 07 of Andres Fjordbach after Dane spun off and hit the wall at T10 before anyone had posted a fast lap.

The session restarted with rain falling steadily, the 14 remaining LMP2 cars rushed out on track with 5 minutes remaining on the clock.

After one lap, Jean-Eric Vergne at the wheel of the n°26 Aurus G-Drive Racing set a lap in 1:58.529 taking the provisional pole position ahead of Filipe Albuquerque (1:59.570) and Loic Duval onboard the n°24 Algarve pro Racing (1:59.605).

However, on the last lap, Albuquerque took the chequered flag after a lap in 1:56.951 securing the third pole position of the 2020 European Le Mans Series for United Autosports. The Portuguese driver was only 0.01s ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne, with third spot going to the n°30 Duqueine Team Oreca 007 of Jonathan Hirschi, the Swiss driver setting a lap of 1:57.766.

LMP3: David Droux Snatches Pole at Chequered Flag

The no8 Realteam Racing Ligier of David Droux snatched pole position away from the no15 RLR MSport Ligier of Malthe Jakobsen by three tenths of a second when the no8 Ligier was the last car to take the chequered in a wet qualifying session.

The 10-minute session saw most cars start on slick tyres but as the rain fell, they came into the pits to switch to wets as they struggled for grip.

Jakobsen put the no15 Ligier on provisional pole and then lost it to the no3 United Autosports Ligier of Duncan Tappy, only regain it a lap later.As the chequered flag was shown there were celebrations in the RLR MSport garage only for David Droux to snatch the pole on the very last lap.

LMGTE: Picariello Takes Pole for Proton Competition

The session was red flagged in the first minute when the no93 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR driven by Michael Fassbender hit the tyre barrier on the outside of T7 after sliding on the damp kerbs on the exit of the corner.The Irish driver emerged from the car and walked away as the Porsche was lifted onto a low loader by the marshals.

After a delay to repair the barrier, the session resumed with the remaining cars with just over 8 minutes on the clock and with rain starting to fall.

The no77 Proton Competition Porsche of Alessio Picariello put in a fast lap of 1m54.508 early on, which proved to be the best of the session.The no60 Iron Lynx Ferrari of reigning LMGTE Champion Nicklas Nielsen was second fastest, with the no51 AF Corse Ferrari of Daniel Serra third quickest.

The Le Castellet 240 will start at 18h30 this evening, which is Round 3 of the 2020 European Le Mans Series and the only night race on the calendar.
