It is just over two months before the scheduled start of the 2021 European Le Mans Series and a few days before entries for the upcoming season will be revealed.
Key to attracting high profile teams and drivers is the stability of the rule book and while the sporting regulations have on the whole remained unchanged, there have been some small changes.Two of those changes concern the tyres used in the three classes.
Single tyre suppliers in each of the three classes
For the 2021 season Goodyear will be the sole supplier of tyres for LMP2.
Goodyear will continue to be the sole supplier for LMGTE and Michelin will continue to be the dedicated tyre supplier for LMP3.
Tyre allocation – LMP3 & LMP2
In a change for the 2021 season LMP3 teams will now be able to use 4 sets of dry weather tyres instead of 3 the previous seasons.
The dry weather tyre allocation for LMP2 has not changed compared to 2020. The teams are able to use 20 tyres (5 sets): 8 tyres (2 sets) for Free Practice and 12 tyres (3 sets) for qualifying and the race.
The dry weather tyre allocation for LMGTE is unchanged and teams can use an unlimited number of tyres.
For wet weather tyres the teams in all classes are unlimited in the number of tyres they can use.
Tyre Specifications
The tyre manufacturers must provide a limited number of tyre specifications for dry and wet weather. The maximum number of specifications at each event, which are unchanged from the 2020 season, are set at –
