2021 European Le Mans Series LMP2 champions Orlen Team WRT set a new points record in the category in their championship winning season with Louis Deletraz, Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye amassing 118 points, from a possible 156 points, in the six races held this year, during which the Belgian team took 3 x 1st, 1 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd and 1 x 5th place finishes.
In 2016 the ELMS added an extra race to the schedule at Spa-Francorchamps, bringing the total number of races up to six and this has been the case for the six season with the exception of 2020, which dropped back to five races due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The previous record was 110 points in 2017 set by G-Drive Racing, with drivers Leo Roussel and Memo Rojas scoring 1 x 1st, 4 x 2nd, 1 x 4th and 1 pole position.
As a percentage of the overall available points the record is held by United Autosports. In 2020 the Anglo-American team, with Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson, scored 109 points from the five races with 3 x 1st, 2 x 3rd and 4 x pole position. With a maximum of 130 points available, United Autosports hold the record at 83.8%, compared to Orlen Team WRTs 118 points from 156 in 2021, which works out at 75.6%.
The overall points record is held by 2019 LMGTE Champions Luzich Racing, with Alessandro Pier Guidi, Fabien Lavergne and Nicklas Nielsen scoring 127 points from 156 (4 x 1st, 1 x 3rd, 1 x 4th), which works out at 81.4% of the available points.This season’s LMGTE champions Iron Lynx scored 126 points.
