Michelin Le Mans Cup LMP3 front runner Freddie Hunt will make his ELMS debut with 2019 championship winning team Eurointernational at the 4 Hours of Barcelona on Sunday 28 August.
Freddie Hunt switched to Le Mans Prototypes with Reiter Engineering at the start of this season, scoring a podium finish with Mads Siljehaug in the second Road to Le Mans race in June and taking his first pole position in Monza last month.
We caught up with the 35-year-old British driver during the Thursday test session to talk about the next step on his goal of racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Q: This weekend you make your ELMS LMP3 debut with Eurointernational. What is going to be the biggest difference for you between the ELMS and MLMC?
“The first biggest difference is the longer stint, I think I will do the first two hours or so, so that's going to be different. Then the traffic I suppose, keeping out the way of the LMP2s without losing lap time and obviously still trying to negotiate the GTs, but I've done that in the Michelin Le Mans Cup. So, I think the main thing differences are the traffic and the longer stints.”
Q: What is the goal for you and Eurointernational this weekend in Barcelona?
“To do as well as we can! My personal goal is consistency. I want to be able to get to a reasonable pace, be consistent and not make any silly mistakes, particularly with the traffic. All I can do is keep my side of the street clean and hope the rest of the team does the same.”
Q: What are your thoughts on the circuit here in Barcelona?
“This is my first time here and I've been wanting to do this track for a long time. So far, I've just done a few laps and it looks great; the track is really cool.
"I like the first sector, which is pretty cool. It’s all pretty decent apart from the last sector, which is just a bit ‘nitty-gritty’, but I think once I've got it, I've got it. But the first sector is good fun.”
