The 2021 Rolex 24 at Daytona was won by the no10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 DPi with Filipe Albuquerque adding the Daytona 24 title to the European Le Mans Series, 2019/20 FIA World Endurance LMP2 and 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP2 titles the Portuguese driver won in 2020.
Albuquerque, along with teammates Ricky Taylor, Alexander Rossi and Helio Castroneves, secured victory after starting the race on Saturday in 5thplace.With less than an hour to the chequered flag Albuquerque was running in second but then the no1 Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing DPi driven by Renger van der Zande was forced to pit with a flat rear tyre, allowing the no10 Acura DPi to take the flag just 4.7 seconds ahead of the no48 Ally Cadillac Racing DPi in second, with the no55 Mazda Motorsports DPi, with former ELMS Champion Harry Tincknell, taking third.
The LMP2 category also saw a former ELMS Champion take victory, with Paul-Loup Chatin standing on the top step of the podium alongside his teammates, Dwight Merriman, Kyle Tilly and Ryan Dalziel.Chatin finished the race in the no18 Era Motorsport Oreca 19.5 seconds ahead of the no8 Tower Motorsport Oreca of former ELMS LMP3 champion John Farano and ELMS regulars Gay Aubry, Timothe Buret and Matthieu Vaxiviere.
Reigning ELMS LMP3 Champion Wayne Boyd missed out on victory in Daytona, the no33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier being beaten into second place by the no74 Riley Motorsports Ligier.
In the GTLM class Alessandro Pier Guidi’s no62 Risi Competizione Ferrari just missed a podium finish, crossing the finish line in 4thplace.
