The Season So Far – LMGTE

The LMGTE class has always provided close and exciting racing and in the first half of the 2022 European Le Mans Series season this has also been the case.  The three races have been split evenly with three different manufacturers claiming a win each so far and just 17 points covering the top six cars in the championship standings.

PODIUM FINISHES

Eight different teams have been classified in a podium position in the first three races, with only the no77 Proton Competition Porsche claiming two podium finishes this season so far with a win in Monza and a 2ndplace finish at Le Castellet.

The no32 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari and the no69 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage won in Le Castellet and Imola respectively, making it three different winners from the three different manufacturers in the races held so far this season.

The no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari and the no95 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin have both finished on the second step of the podium in Monza and Imola.

The final step on the podium has been claimed by the no93 Proton Competition Porsche (Le Castellet), the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari (Imola) and the no18 Absolute Racing Porsche (Monza)

POLE POSITIONS

The 2022 season has seen a change in the regulations meaning the Bronze driver has to take part in the qualifying session.The pole position for each of the three races has been secured by three different teams, who were all classified as the winners at the end of the race.

  1. In Le Castellet Memo Gidley took pole in the no32 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari.
  2. In Imola Ahmad Al Harthy took the first ever pole for an Omani driver and flagged team in the no69 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage
  3. In Monza Christian Ried took the pole in the no77 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR-19.

FASTEST LAPS

The fastest race laps recorded in each of the three races have been set by the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GTE EVO and the no95 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage.

  1. In Le Castellet Mikkel Jensen posted a 1m54.044 on lap 96, which is an average speed of 182.2kph.
  2. In Imola, Henrique Chaves set the fastest lap of the race in the no95 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage, a 1m41.785 on lap 80 (173.6kph), a new LMGTE lap record at Imola.
  3. In Monza, Mikkel Jensen set his second fastest lap of the season with a 1m49.508 on lap 50 (190.4kph).

RACE DISTANCES

Twelve cars took part in each of the three 4-Hour races held so far this season.

Round 1: Le Castellet (5.773km)

  1. In Le Castellet the winning car completed 113 laps or 652.12km
  2. The LMGTE grid completed 1240 laps, or a total distance of 7156.04km

Round 2: Imola (4.909km)

  1. In Imola the winning car completed 121laps or 593.99km
  2. The 12-car grid completed 1129 laps or a total distance of 5542.26km

Round 3: Monza (5.793km)

  1. In Monza the winning car completed 115 laps or 666.20km
  2. The 12-car grid completed 1267 laps or a total distance of 7339.73km

The total distance covered by all competitors during the first three races of the 2022 European Le Mans Series is 20,038.03km

CHAMPIONSHIP POSITIONS

The no77 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR-19 is currently leading on 44 points, an 8-point advantage at the top of the table.The no32 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari 488 GTE EVO is second on 36 points and the no69 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage is tied in third place on 28 points with the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari and the no83 Iron Lynx Ferrari.
