Portimão: What the drivers said
05/11/2020

Filipe Albuquerque – n°22 United Autosports Oreca 07 – 3rd LMP2

“I think we were lucky with the way the race went today. Phil had no where to go on the start but these things happen and we had to adapt the strategy. P2 would have been possible today but the slow puncture gave us P3. Five podiums in five races so I think we have to be happy.”

Will Stevens – n°31 Panis Racing Oreca 07 – 5th LMP2

"Another positive weekend to finish the season, particularly with a strong and clean qualifying session where we could finally show our true pace. And we were the best Goodyear by far. During the race, at some point, we were once again very fast. Some competitors got quite lucky with the strategy, that’s why we couldn’t finish higher than P5. I was very close to get in P4 at the very end. We miss the podium in the championship, but more by lack of luck.

We could have been higher up in the standings, without a DNF in the Paul Ricard and with more reward in qualification, our weak point somehow. We showed in Portimao that a front row was really where we deserve to be pace-wise. That’s why there is some frustration because we have constantly been among the fastest in races while qualification never really went our way. It was a pleasure to work with Nico and Julien. We have formed a great trio. It was my third year with the team. The most important thing is we constantly grow up and make progress. We had a very strong package this year. Thanks to the whole team."

Antonin Borga – n°37 Cool Racing Oreca 07 – 9th LMP2

“We started the weekend well and it’s such a shame the race didn’t unfold as planned as we had a lot of potential. We weren’t rewarded for our pace, but we made it to the finish and we have work to do. I’m delighted that we have been able to complete the season, despite the problems linked to COVID-19 and would like to thank for team for this year.”

Wayne Boyd – n°2 United Autosports Ligier JS P320 – 1st LMP3

“Absolutely over the moon. Towards the end of the race, we knew second was enough to do it but to win was great. And to be honest we deserved it. We were the fastest car out there. The team have done an incredible job this year, always giving us a fantastic car. I can’t thank everyone enough. I’ve been with United for five years now and to finally win the championship with them is amazing. It tops off a brilliant year for the team. I’m so proud to have been involved.”

Rob Hodes – n°10 Nielsen Racing Duqueine D08 – 5th LMP3

“We did the best we could today, all three of us had really good stints: I made a spot, Charlie made a couple of spots, Garett made a spot or two and then we got very unlucky with Safety Cars, we unfortunately lost a lap, otherwise we would have been fighting for a podium today but it is what it is. Is not a bad result so all in all, it was a fun day."
