A WORD FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR
Once again Portuguese Race Director Eduardo Freitas will be in charge and controlling the proceedings from Race Control. We asked him his thoughts on the final race of the season on his home track.
“Algarve is in my country and everyone is welcome in Portugal. We’re very proud to welcome everyone in Portimão. There is still a lot to be decided in the championship and this is a tricky track. It’s a track where the drivers will need to memorise the reference points quite well, as they are not very easy.
“The track is undulating and is known as the roller coaster of motor sport. The track has been totally resurfaced, so the bumps seen in previous years have disappeared and the weather looks like it will be with us for the weekend. Which should mean we have a great finale in Portimão and a great end to the 2020 ELMS season after all the hiccups we have had to live with this year.”
WHAT THE DRIVERS SAY….
Filipe Albuquerque – no22 United Autosports Oreca-Gibson
“The championship might be won but the pressure is always there because we are only as good as our last race. We are not relaxing, and we are going to Portimão with the same goal, to take pole and to win. If you want to stay ahead you have to keep working hard.”
Dino Lunardi – no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier-Nissan
“Portimão is a completely different track from Monza. I have a double programme on the same weekend as I also will be racing with Motorsport98 in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, so it is quite busy. I want to bring my experience to the team, and I look forward to being with Martin (Hippe) again.”
Michael Broniszewski – no74 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GTE EVO
“It’s a great track and I’ve raced many times there. It’s a good track for the last race, it’s very difficult, very technical, so the preparation of the car will be key.Let’s do our best.”
