The post-race reactions after Le Castellet 240, third round of the 2020 European Le Mans Series.
Nicolas Jamin – Panis Racing – n°31 Oreca 07 (4e)
“I want first to thank the team for the great job they all did, the race was perfect. The engineers chose the perfect strategy, the mechanics were great and the three of us, on track, did all we could. It is too bad that after leading and building a gap of 30s, the end of the race became more complicated, forcing Will to save fuel as he already kept my tires. The last safety-car ruined all our efforts because the win was reachable. We know that since the beginning of the season we have the pace and I’m sure that our bad luck will go away for the next race and the next one is…Le Mans!”
Rene Binder – Inter Europol Competition – n°34 Ligier JSP217 (6th)
“A solid race for us before Le Mans. The car was very good, but we struggled a bit in the dry at the end, as we did build the car more for the wet. But very happy for the crew to have gotten such a solid result and it was a good practice for Le Mans.”
Alexandre Coigny – Cool Racing – n°37 Oreca 07 (12e)
“This was a very difficult race with changing track conditions which were hard to manage, like we saw at Spa. It was extremely complicated adapting to a drying track and to find my marks, especially in the night with the fog. All of it was new to me but it was very informative. I have learnt a lot which will be very useful for Le Mans as we could have similar conditions there. We’re a bit disappointed by the overall result but we have learnt a lot this weekend.”
Andrew Bentley – United Autosport – n°3 Ligier JS P320 (2nd LMP3)
“Awesome, awesome result. A huge effort by the whole team. The car was good and I think it was one of the hardest races, the conditions and the format. I think I was in the lead when I brought the car in. I felt great in the car and we took a bit of a gamble with going onto slicks and it all worked. This is an awesome result for Jim (McGuire) as this is who it is for – we can’t wait to have him back in the car again.”
James Dayson – RLR MSport – n°15 Ligier JS P320 (4th LMP3)
“We got some really good points, but it’s one of those days where we fell short of what we expected and deserved through a bit of bad luck. Being in fourth feels like the first of the losers, and although I don’t think we would have won, a podium was definitely on the cards. I think we all drove well for the most part, although I could have done better in the first 30 minutes because I ended up overheating my tyres. It was definitely a crazy race, but we’re still in a very good championship position.”
