FP2: Prema Racing Out in Front ahead of Qualifying in Portimao

Championship leaders Prema Racing headed the time sheets in the final Free Practice session ahead of qualifying later this afternoon in the knowledge that the single point for pole position would be enough to secure the 2022 ELMS LMP2 Driver and Team titles.

Louis Deletraz set the fastest time of the 90-minute session, lapping the 4.653km circuit in 1m32.876s, 0.067s ahead of the no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca of Pietro Fittipaldi.Racing Team Turkey were third fastest and the quickest of the LMP2 Pro-Am runners, with Jack Aitken’s 1m32.975 lap just 0.099s behind Deletraz.

Prema Racing’s only championship rival Panis Racing could only finish in 12th spot at the end of the 90-minute Free Practice.

The 2021 LMP3 Champions DKR Engineering we the fastest of the 13 cars, with Sebastien Alvarez setting a 1m38.424, 0.146s ahead of Mateusz Kaprzyk in the no14 Inter Europol Competition Ligier, with Alex Kapadia in the no5 RLR MSport Ligier in third just 0.033s behind Kaprzyk.

The championship leading no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier was 5th fastest, two places and 0.2s ahead of their rivals in the no17 Cool Racing Ligier.

The no18 Absolute Racing Porsche was the quickest of the eleven LMGTE cars that took part in the session, with Alessio Picariello posting a 1m41.285 lap, 0.298s ahead of Richard Lietz in the no93 Proton Competition Porsche.

Of the three championship contenders the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari was third fastest with a 1m41.607 laps, just 0.02s ahead of the no77 Proton Competition Porsche, with the no60 Iron Lynx Ferrari back in 7th.

Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Portimao will start with the LMGTE category at 16h35.
