The second and final Free Practice session ahead of tomorrow’s 4 hours of Aragon saw the 42 car grid head out on track after sunset and finish under the stars in a trial run for the race on Saturday night.
The no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca was the fastest car in track with Olli Caldwell posting a 1m48.316 lap, four tenths faster than the best time set in FP1. The no43 Oreca finished the session 0.143s ahead of the no47 COOL Racing Oreca of José María López and another two hundredths ahead of the third placed car, the no30 Duqueine Team Oreca which set times of 1m48.499 and 1m48.523 respectively.
The fastest LMP2 Pro/Am car finished in 4th overall, with Filipe Albuquerque posting a 1m48.670 lap in the no21 United Autosports USA Oreca. The no37 COOL Racing Oreca was the second quickest Pro/Am car in 7th overall, with Malthe Jakobsen going quickest with a 1m49.149, 0.833s behind the no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca in first place.
The LMP3 class was headed by the no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine, with Pedro Perino setting the best time around the 5.34km Aragon circuit of 1m54.058, just 0.030s ahead of the no10 Eurointernational Ligier of Glenn Van Berlo. The WTM by Rinaldi Racing Duqueine was third quickest in 1m54.335, nearly six tenths ahead of the fourth fastest car the no5 RLR MSport Ligier.
Iron Lynx set the best time in FP2 for the LMGTE category, with Matteo Cairoli’s time of 1m57.265 out pacing the rest of the field. The second fastest car was the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 of Matt Griffin, the Irish driver just 0.033s slower than his Italian rival.It was Ferrari filling the next two positions, with Formula Racing third quickest in 1m57.346, just ahead of Kessel Racing by 0.130s.
Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Aragon will be held on Saturday morning beginning at 10h15, with the race at 18h00.
