FP2: All Set For Qualifying Showdown in Portimao

The no65 Panis Racing Oreca was the fastest of the 43 entries in the final Free Practice session ahead of qualifying for the 4 Hours of Portimao.  Charles Milesi’s time of 1m31.743 was 0.5 seconds faster than the best time in FP1 yesterday.

The session was halted five minutes early when the no59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin went off into the gravel at T8, causing a Red Flag. There wasn’t enough time to recover the car and resume the practice session.

The no28 IDEC Sport Oreca was second fastest in FP2, with Job Van Uitert posting a 1m31.989, 0.246 behind Panis Racing and 0.042s ahead of the two Inter Europol Competitions Orecas, led by the no43, with Tom Dillmann posting a 1m32.031 who was 0.202s ahead of his teammate Clement Novalak in the no34 Oreca.

Championship leaders AO by TF finished the session 14thin class, one second behind the leading car.

The no24 Nielsen Racing Oreca was the fastest of the LMP2 Pro/Am entries, with a 1m32.673 lap by Nick Yelloly good enough for 11thoverall. The no19 Team Virage Oreca was second in the Pro/Am category with Tristan Vautier setting a 1m32.773.

Championship contenders Richard Mille by TDS finished the session third in class, two places ahead of championship leaders AF Corse, with the third placed no20 Algarve Pro Racing finishing the session eighth out of eight.

The LMP3 category was headed by Gael Julien in the no15 RLR MSport with a 1m39.334, 0.407s ahead of the no31 Racing Spirit of Leman of Antonie Doquin and 0.418s ahead of their championship rivals Team Virage, with Gillian Henrion setting the best lap in that car.Championship leaders Eurointernational finished the session 6thin class with a 1m40.233.

The LMGT3 category was headed by the no59 Racing Spirit of Leman with Valentin Hasse Clot posting a 1m42.564. It was Caspar Stevenson who caused the red flag in the same car that ended the session 5-minutes early.

The no66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari was second quickest with Ben Tuck setting a 1m42.798, with the no60 Proton Competition Porsche in third place with Julien Andlauer at the wheel.

The championship leading no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari finished down in 10thin class.

Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Portimao will begin at 14h45 BST / 15h45 CEST this afternoon, starting with LMGT3.
