The no37 Cool Racing Oreca of 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Charles Milesi took the pole position for tomorrow’s 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in a red flag shortened session.
The red flag was shown when the no32 United Autosports Oreca went off at Raidillon in an almost identical incident to the earlier accident in the LMP3 session. Nicolas Jamin came out of the car unaided but there was a long delay to repair the tyre barriers once again.
With 9 minutes of the session remaining the green flag was waved with all the remaining cars out on track to get a time on the board.
The no35 BHK Motorsport Oreca of Sergio Campana briefly headed the table before the no41 Orlen Team WRT Oreca of Louis Deletraz and then the Cool Racing Oreca of Charles Milesi went to the top of the timing screen.
The no22 United Autosports Oreca of Phil Hanson made a late challenge for the top spot but eventually finished in second place 0.132s behind Milesi with the no41 Team WRT Oreca in third place 0.378s behind.
LMP3 – Four in a Row for Hörr and DKR Engineering
Laurents Hörr claimed his 4th pole position of the 2021 season with a 2m11.548 lap of the 7km Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The session was red flagged before anyone had set a fast lap when the no12 Racing Experience Duqueine of David Hauser spun at the top of Raidillon and hit the tyre barriers.Hauser climbed out of the car unaided but the tyre barrier need extensive repairs before the session could resume. The no5 MV2S Racing Ligier of Fabien Lavergne also stopped at the run into Eau Rouge. The clock was stopped with 8 minutes 32 seconds on the clock.
The session resumed and Laurents Hörr immediately put in a 2m12.517 lap in the no4 Duqueine and then improved this time twice more, ending up with a 2m11.548 at the chequered flag.
Ugo de Wilde took second place in the no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier, the Belgian moving ahead of the no2 United Autosports Ligier of Wayne Boyd at the chequered flag.
LMGTE – Proton Competition Takes Pole at Spa
The no93 Proton Competition Porsche became the fifth different car in five races to claim pole position after Richard Lietz set the fastest lap of the 12-minute LMGTE qualifying session.
The Austrian’s time of 2m16.093 was set early in the session and never beaten as most of the grid lost times for going beyond track limits.
The championship leading no80 Iron Lynx Ferrari will start tomorrow’s race in second place with Miguel Molina setting a 2m16.978 lap time, 0.885s behind the no93 Porsche and three tenths ahead of the no88 AF Corse Ferrari of Alessio Rovera, the 24 Hours of Le Mans winner setting a 2m17.233.
The start for the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will begin at 11h00 on Sunday 19 September.
