4 Hours of Le Castellet: what the drivers said
08/06/2021

Antonin Borga –n°37 Cool Racing Oreca 07– 3rd LMP2 Pro/ Am: “I’m pleased with our performance this weekend, the team did a great job and provided us with a really good car. The pit crew were excellent and timed our stops to perfection. I am happy to have driven a faultless race and to be on the podium. It’s an important result for the championship, we are now going to focus on Monza and improving even further.”

Phil Hanson – n°22 United Autosports Oreca 07 – 2nd overall:The race definitely went in our favour. We came second in this race because of strategy. I think our pace was good enough all weekend but wasn’t a stand out like it had been at Red Bull Ring. A good job from the team all around. It was a shame I got hit off the track on the inside at the start and lost those positions because that compromised my stint. Ultimately, me getting out of the car early and getting Jonathan in the car with four new tyres was the key to our strategy that gave us the opportunity to finish second. To have come from seventh to second is great, and we have now closed the gap to the championship leaders as well which is brilliant, as we are only half way through the season so there is everything still to fight for.”

Robert Kubica – n°41 WRT Oreca 07 – 5th overall: “It was a good weekend until mid-race... It wasn’t easy throughout the weekend, with all the uncertainties regarding the tyres. We managed well that aspect during the race, but everything turned against us in the second part of the race. That’s racing. Fifth is not what we had hoped as a result, but it’s some good points. We have to continue working and prepare even better for the next race.”

Michael Benham – n°15 RLR MSport Ligier JS P320 – 4th LMP3: It hasn’t been my strongest weekend, so to come away with fourth-place results in both the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup is great. The LMC race was ludicrously eventful, and I drove quite well to end my stint in seventh, but I don’t feel I did my best in the ELMS and I can’t work out why I was lacking pace, because nothing we did with car setup worked for me. I’ve never been particularly strong at Circuit Paul Ricard, but Monza is more straightforward, and I think we can find a good direction before then.”
