What’s new in the 2022 regulations?

Entries for the 2022 European Le Mans Series season, which will take place on six of the best European tracks, are now being taken.

What’s new in the 2022 regulations?
06/12/2021

The European championship will visit as usual Le Castellet, Barcelona, Spa-Francorchamps and Portimão, with Hungaroring and Imola returning to the calendar.

As every year, the regulations have been updated, so let’s have a look to some of the main changes:

  1. The driving time in LMP2 for the Bronze Drivers has been extended to two stints minimum in order to give them more track time as was requested at the end of the 2021 season.
  2. The pit stop regulation has been updated to reintroduce help for the drivers during all the pitstops.
  3. In LMP3, when a penalty is given to a team in addition to a pitstop, this penalty is added to the minimum pitstop time. This means that if a car is given a penalty, it has to do its pitstop in the window of the minimum pitstop time and then do its penalty.
  4. The private tests that are organised by the promotor every Thursday before a race weekend are now only reserved for ELMS competitors or competitors that are not entered in either the ELMS or WEC. A WEC competitor won’t be able to participate in these tests in 2022.
  5. It will be forbidden for all the teams to test on a circuit included in the 2022 calendar 30 days before an ACO event takes place on that same track.
  6. Concerning the race, a car that does not take the start for any reason, will now be authorised to take part in the race, even if it goes on track after three hours of racing. There won’t be any limit in the time to join the race, as has been the case in previous seasons.

Once again, the 2022 season promises to be an exciting one, so don’t forget to follow us to know everything about this coming season!
