Sixteen of the sixty-two entries for the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans will be ELMS teams and drivers, with ELMS race winner Matteo Cairoli at the wheel of the no88 Porsche. The young Italian won the 4 Hours of Monza driving the no77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR alongside Christian Ried and Riccardo Pera, the last big test before the world’s greatest motor sport event on the 15/16 June.
The no77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche was victorious at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans with Christian Ried being joined on the top step of the podium by Matt Campbell and Julien Andlauer. Matteo Cairoli was in the no88 Porsche alongside Giorgio Roda and Khalid Al Qubaisi in the 2018 race but the car retired after 225 laps after nearly 16 hours of the race completed.
We asked Matteo Cairoli what competing at Le Mans means to him as a driver.
“I think I have seen the movie Le Mans 300 times at least, so everytime I am driving it is something unique. It’s a good combination between driver, car and team and I enjoy every lap and I cannot wait to start the big one next month.”
The 87th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on 15/16 June 2019 with Free Practice and Qualifying beginning on Wednesday 12 June.
