Portimão – Facts and Figures

Portugal has hosted the European Le Mans Series season finale since 2014.  For three years from 2014 to 2016 the Portuguese round of the series was held at Estoril. In 2017 the race was held for the first time at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve and it has been the season finale for the past seven seasons.

  1. The first edition of the 4 Hours of Portimão was held on the 22ndOctober 2017 and won by the no40 Graff Oreca 07-Gibson of Richard Bradley, James Allen and Gustavo Yacaman.
  2. Proton Competition has won three of the six previous 4 Hours of Portimão, with Christian Ried being a member of all three crews in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
  3. United Autosports is the most successful team at Portimão with two LMP2 (2018 and 2021) and two LMP3 (2017 and 2020) victories.The Anglo-American team has also appeared on both the LMP2 and LMP3 podiums in every race from 2017 to 2021, and on the LMP3 podium in 2022.United Autosports have secured 13 podium finishes in the six races held at Portimao.
  4. In 2022 Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting and Doriane Pin became the first all-female crew to win an ELMS race in their Iron Lynx run Ferrari 488 GTE EVO.
  5. In 2022 Malthe Jakobsen also set a new ELMS record when the Dane secured his sixth LMP3 pole position from six attempts in the no17 COOL Racing Ligier-Nissan, the first time all six pole positions in a season have gone to the same driver.

  2. The shortest race was held in 2019. Only 493.22km or 106 laps were completed.

The 4 Hours of Algarve and the 4 Hours of Portimão are Round 5 and Round 6 of the 2023 European Le Mans Series and will be held on Friday 20 and Sunday 22 October respectively.
