The no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus 01-Gibson set the pace in Free Practice 1, with Jean Eric Vergne setting a 1m40.325 lap around the 5.7km Circuit Paul Ricard in his first ELMS session of the 2020 season.
The French driver was three tenths ahead of the no25 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca, with Gaby Aubry’s 1m40.706 lap 0.381 seconds behind Vergne and 0.015s ahead of Filipe Albuquerque in the championship leading no22 United Autosports Oreca-Gibson.
Reigning Champions Eurointernational were quickest in the LMP3 category with Niko Kari posting a 1m49.677, just 0.193s ahead of the no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine of Laurents Hörr, who was a further 0.033s ahead of the no2 United Autosports Ligier of double race winner Wayne Boyd.
The fastest car in the LMGTE class was the no60 Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GTE EVO, with Nicklas Nielsen posting a 1m52.674 lap time. The Danish was over six tenths ahead of his nearest rival Alessio Picariello, the Belgian driver lapping in the no77 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR in 1m53.277, with the no93 Proton Competition Porsche of Richard Lietz third fastest with a 1m53.292.
Free Practice 2 will take place at 21h00 this evening with the first session of the 2020 season taking place after sunset.
