G-Drive Lead The Way in Monza After First Practice

The no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus 01-Gibson set the pace in the first Free Practice session of the 4 Hours of Monza. Norman Nato set the fastest time, lapping the 5.7km track in 1m36.243, two tenths ahead of the nearest rival.

The 90-minute session was dry with broken sunshine over the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.  The session was punctuated by three Full Course Yellow periods and finished three minutes early when a red flag was shown after a collision between the no35 BHK Motorsport Oreca collided with the no26 G-Drive Aurus with Job Van Uitert on board.  Both cars were recovered to the pits but the session was not resumed.

The no28 IDEC Sport Oreca was second fastest in LMP2 with Paul Loup Chatin setting a 1m36.519 lap, 0.276s behind the no26 Aurus and 0.365s ahead of the no37 Cool Racing Oreca of Nico Lapierre.

The no45 Carlin Dallara was fourth fastest after Ben Barnicoat posted a 1m37.156 lap time.

The no10 Oregon Team Norma M30 was the fastest of the LMP3 runners with Damiano Fioravanti setting a 1m44.908 to put the Italian team on a good footing for their home race.  

The top three cars were split by one tenth of a second.  Fioravanti was 0.080s ahead of Colin Noble in the no7 Nielsen Racing Norma, with the no19 M Racing Norma-Nissan of Lucas Légeret third fastest just 0.054s behind the second placed car.

The no56 Team Project 1 Porsche of Jörg Bergmeister was the fastest car in the LMGTE category, the 1m48.075 lap two tenths ahead of the second placed car, the no66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari F488 of Matteo Cressoni.

The second Free Practice session at Monza will take place tomorrow, Saturday 11 May, at 09h00 (CET).
