G-Drive Racing got the Monza weekend off to a good start when Nyck de Vries posted the fastest lap in the first 90-minute free practice session just as the chequered flag was shown.
After winning in 2018 and 2019, the no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus is attempting to making it three wins in a row at Monza for the team and for Roman Rusinov.De Vries’ time of 1m34.612 around the 5.793km circuit was 0.378 seconds ahead of championship leaders Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque in the no22 United Autosports Oreca.
The top five cars were split by just three quarters of a second with the no20 High Class Racing third fastest with a 1m35.061 lap, the no30 Duqueine Oreca on 1m35.349 and the no50 Richard Mille Racing Team Oreca fifth, with Sophia Flörsch lapping Monza in 1m35.358, 0.746s behind the lead car.
The top 3 in LMP3 were split by a very narrow 0.07 seconds with round 3 winners Realteam Racing being the quickest of the twelve competitors. David Droux set the pace with a 1m43.781, ahead of Laurents Hörr in the no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine, who finished the session in second with a 1m43.833, and the no15 RLR MSport Ligier in third with a 1m43.851 lap.
The championship leading no2 United Autosports Ligier was 5thfastest in FP1 with a1m44.228, 0.181s behind the 4thplaced no7 Nielsen Racing Duqueine.
The no93 Proton Competition Porsche was the top car in the LMGTE class, with Richard Lietz posting a 1m47.373 to head the category at the end of the 90-minute session. The no60 Iron Lynx Ferrari was second fastest, just one hundredth of a second behind with Andrea Piccini posting a 1m47.383.Championship leader Alessio Picariello set the third fastest time in the no77 Proton Competition Porsche with a 1m47.574, just ahead of the no83 Iron Lynx Ferrari after Rahel Frey posted a 1m47.877 lap.
The second Free Practice session of the 4 Hours of Monza weekend will take place tomorrow morning at 09h00.
