FP2: Iron Lynx-Proton Ahead as Grid Prepares for Qualifying in Portugal

The no9 Iron Lynx-Proton was the quickest car in the second and final Free Practice session with Matteo Cairoli posting the fastest lap of the weekend so far.  The Italian’s 1m31.445 lap was two tenths quicker than the best lap set in FP1.

Championship contenders Inter Europol Competition were second fastest, just 0.055s off the top spot after Nick Yelloly lapped the Portimao track in 1m31.500. The British driver’s time was 0.029s ahead of the no28 IDEC Sport Oreca.

The other title contenders, the no48 VDS Panis Racing and the no18 IDEC Sport were 5thand 8that the end of the 90-minute session respectively.

The no99 AO by TF Oreca was the fastest of the eight LMP2 Pro/Am runners, with Louis Deletraz setting a 1m32.448, 0.254s ahead of the no77 Proton Competition. Championship leaders Algarve Pro Racing finished the session 5th in class.

LMP3 was once again headed by the newly crowned championship winning car, the no17 CLX Motorsport Ligier-Toyota, with Adrien Closmenil setting a best time of 1m39.345. The no11 Eurointernational and no15 RLR MSport Ligiers were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The no23 United Autosports McLaren was the quickest of the thirteen LMGT3 entries, with Wayne Boyd’s best lap of 1m42.672 0.197 seconds ahead of the second fastest car, the no59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin, with the no86 GR Racing Ferrari third fastest with a 1m43.228 lap.

The championship leading no50 Richard Mille AF Corse Ferrari finished the session in 11th place.

Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Portimão will begin at 15h15 this afternoon.
