Focus on the Driver’s signing on

At the start of every event the competitors have to go to the Driver’s signing on, which is a mandatory at every race and takes place on Thursday. Failure to sign on means a driver won’t be authorised to take part to the event.

During the signing on procedure, the driver’s equipment is checked for conformity with the regulations. The technical marshals check the fireproof overalls to ensure it is to the correct standard and that the condition of the overall meets the strict safety rules.  They also check the patches on the overall to ensure that all the series sponsors are in the correct place, the fireproof underwear, the shoes, the gloves, the helmet and the HANS device.

If all the equipment corresponds to the FIA security standards, the marshal will place a sticker on the helmet and the HANS to say that it has been passed for the event. If the equipment does not conform, the driver or a representative from the team will have to return to the signing on area with the correct equipment.

The marshals also check the licence of the driver that they have to present in person; they will then sign a form with their personal information. The equipment can be brought by a representative of the team, it does not necessarily have to be the driver.

For the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the signing on procedures will take place on Thursday 22 September from 15h00 to 19h30.
