The 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will start on Saturday 11 June and conclude on Sunday 12 June. While the world’s most famous race is not part of the European Le Mans Series calendar, it is an important part of every team’s schedule and, as such, the ELMS is well represented on the LMP2 and LMGTE AM grids this year.
There are nine cars on the LMP2 grid that are competing in the 2022 European Le Mans Series.Also, reigning LMP2 champions WRT, who are competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship this season, will be entering a third Oreca 07 alongside their two WEC cars thanks to their ELMS victory in 2021.
2021 LMP3 champions, DKR Engineering, will be making their LMP2 debut at Le Mans this year, thanks to their guaranteed entry for winning the championship last season.
French ELMS teams Panis Racing, IDEC Sport, Graff Racing, Duqueine Team and TDS Racing X Vaillante are all running with unchanged driver line ups from the last outing in Imola and will be hoping for home glory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Algarve Pro Racing’s ELMS car will feature reigning LMP2 Pro-Am champion John Falb, with the American being joined by Sophia Floersch and Racing Team Turkey’s Jack Aitken for Le Mans.Cool Racing also have a driver change with Nicolas Lapierre racing in the Hypercar class with Alpine Elf Team, his place filled by American Ricky Taylor, who will join Yifei Ye and Niklas Kruetten behind the wheel of the no37 Oreca-Gibson.
Nielsen Racing have an unchanged line up for Le Mans with Matt Bell, Rodrigo Sales and Ben Hanley.It’s also an unchanged line up at Inter Europol Competition in the no43 Oreca, with David Heinemeier-Hansson, Pietro Fittipaldi and Fabio Scherer.
Other familiar names from the ELMS will be on the grid at Le Mans, including United Autosport, AF Corse and Prema, who are all competing in the FIA WEC at Le Mans.
There are five ELMS cars on the LMGTE AM grid.Michael Fassbender will be making his long awaited Le Mans debut in the no93 Proton Competition Porsche with Matt Campbell standing in for Richard Lietz as the Austrian is racing in LMGTE Pro for Porsche.
Reigning LMGTE champions Iron Lynx, with 2021 driver’s champion Matteo Cressoni being joined by Giancarlo Fisichella and Richard Heistand in the no80 Ferrari 488.
The no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari will have an unchanged driver line up with Matt Griffin, Duncan Cameron and David Perel, with the same at Kessel Racing with Takeshi Kimura, Frederik Schandorff and Mikkel Jensen in the no57 Ferrari.
Former ELMS Champions JMW Motorsport will be fielding their Ferrari 488 GTE EVO but with all three drivers changed from the 4 Hours of Imola.
There are other teams from the ELMS competing at Le Mans in LMGTE Am, including TF Sport and the Iron Dames Iron Lynx Ferrari, with both teams competing in the WEC.
