ELMS Champions Take Part in The Roar Before the Rolex 24 This Weekend

The first big endurance event of the 2024 season, the Rolex 24 at Daytona will take place in Florida on the 25-28 January but first the 59 entries will take to the track this weekend with The Roar Before the Rolex 24.

The grid for the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will see no less than 55 ELMS Champions and race winners, past and present, take to the track in Daytona, with 10 teams that have excelled in the European Le Mans Series over the years.

The top GTP Class will feature 8 drivers, with multiple ELMS LMGTE Team Champions Proton Competition entering a Porsche 963.ELMS Champions Gianmaria Bruni, Alessio Picariello, Filipe Albuquerque, Louis Deletraz and Phil Hanson will be competing for overall honours in Daytona.

The LMP2 class at Daytona will feature five ELMS teams, United Autosports USA, TDS Racing, Inter Europol, Dragonspeed and Richard Mille AF Corse.Reigning ELMS LMP2 Champions Kyffin Simpson and James Allen will be on the grid, as will LMP2 Pro/Am champion Matthieu Vaxiviere. The grid also includes former ELMS champions Paul Loup Chatin, Mikkel Jensen, John Farano, Malthe Jakobsen and Nicklas Nielsen.

The GTD Pro Category will see 10 ELMS drivers, with former ELMS LMGTE Team Champions Iron Lynx running two cars in the 13 strong class. Former ELMS Champions Alessandro Pier Guidi, Matteo Cressoni and Harry Tincknell will be challenging for class honours.

The GTD class will see no less than 23 names familiar to ELMS fans and four cars run by current and former ELMS teams – AF Corse, Cetilar Racing, Proton Competition and Iron Dames.Current and former ELMS Drivers Champions in the GTD category include Miguel Molina, Zac Robichon, Charlie Eastwood, Ryan Hardwick and Tom Gamble.

The Roar Before the Rolex 24 starts tomorrow (19 January) and runs until Sunday 21 January.
