The weather was cloudy but warm on Day 2 of the 4 Hours of Imola weekend, with the air temperature sitting at 32 degrees Celsius and the track temperature at 45 degrees. The session was red flagged 90 seconds before the chequered flag was a bollard was knocked in the pit entry road and had to be recovered.
The no18 IDEC Sport Oreca was the quickest of the 44 cars on track with Daniel Juncadella posting a 1m31.426, the fastest time of the weekend so far. Juncadella was just 0.056s ahead of the no10 Vector Sport with Piettro Fittipaldi setting a best lap of 1m31.482.
The no28 IDEC Sport Oreca of Job Van Uitert was third quickest, 0.153s behind their teammates and 0.033s ahead of Luca Ghiotto in the no34 Inter Europol Competition Oreca in 4th.
The no20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca was the fastest of the eight LMP2 Pro/Am entries, with Alex Quinn lapping the 4.9km circuit in 1m32.028 in 9thoverall. The no29 TDS Racing was second in the category, with Clement Novalak setting a 1m32.420, 0.073s ahead of the no99 AO by TF of Louis Deletraz.
LMP3 was headed by the no88 Inter Europol Competition Legier with Reece Gold setting a 1m40.160, just 0.014s ahead of the championship leading no17 CLX Motorsport Ligier driven by Adrien Closmenil and 0.018s ahead of the third place no11 Eurointernational Ligier of Ian Aguilera at the end of the 90-minute session.
The no59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Vantage topped the times, with Valentin Hasse Clot lapping in 1m42.141, a new ELMS outright LMGT3 record, beating the previous best of 1m42.386 set by Daniel Serra last year.
Serra’s teammate Ben Tuck set the second fastest time in FP2, setting a 1m42.475 in the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari, with the no63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG of Lorcan Hanafin third fastest 0.543s behind the leading Aston Martin.
Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Imola is due to begin at 14h30 with the 15-minute session for LMGT3.
