With one third of the 2022 European Le Mans Series completed, the championship positions in each of the four categories are shaping up with some classes seeing dominant performances, while in others the positions couldn’t be closer after two races. The 4 Hours of Monza will make the halfway point of the six-race season.
LMP2: With two wins from two starts Italian squad Prema Racing have made the almost perfect debut in the European Le Mans Series, with just the two points for the two pole positions in Le Castellet and Imola going to TDS Racing x Vaillante and AF Corse. Ferdinand Habsburg, Lorenzo Colombo and Louis Deletraz head to Monza on 50 points, 23 ahead of their nearest rivals Job Van Uitert, Julien Canal and Nicolas Jamin, who are racing for Panis Racing.
LMP2 Pro/Am: Racing Team Turkey have also made the perfect start to the 2022 season, with two wins in the Pro/Am category from two starts. Salih Yoluc, Charlie Eastwood and Jack Aitken will start the 4 Hours of Monza weekend on 50 points, 17 ahead of Mathias Beche, Philippe Cimadomo and Tijmen Van Der Helm in the no31 TDS Racing x Vaillante Oreca.
LMP3: Cool Racing have been the team to beat in the LMP3 category, with the no17 Ligier of Michael Benham, Maurice Smith and Malthe Jakobsen taking 42 points from the first two races thanks to two pole positions, a win in Le Castellet and third place in Imola. They have an 11-point lead over the United Autosports crew of 4 Hours of Imola winners Andrew Bentley and Kay Van Berlo.
LMGTE: With three teams tied at the top of the points table, the battle in the LMGTE class couldn’t be tighter. 4 Hours of Le Castellet winners Rinaldi Racing and drivers Nicolas Varrone, Pierre Ehret and Memo Gidley are currently on 26 points thanks to the pole position scored by Gidley in the Ferrari 488 GTE EVO. Round 2 winners Ahmad Al Harthy, Marco Sorensen and Sam De Haan are also on 26 points thanks to the pole to flag victory in the 4 Hours of Imola in the no69 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin. The no95 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin is the third entry to score 26 points in the opening two races, with Jonny Adam, John Hartshorne and Henrique Chaves taking a second place finish in Imola and a 6th in Le Castellet.
