2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup Champion Fabio Babini will compete in the 2018 European Le Mans Series as team champions Ebimotors take up their automatic invitation to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Babini will be the lead driver in the no80 Porsche 911 RSR alongside Ricardo Pera and Raymond Narac as the team look forward to the first race in Le Castellet this weekend.
The no80 Porsche finished the final session of the two day ELMS Official Test third fastest in LMGTE and was fastest for most of the 3-hour session, which was a good sign after Babini spun off during the opening session on Monday morning, damaging the Porsche. The team carried out repairs to get the car ready for the second day and the first race at the weekend.
“It has gone well today, the weather completely changes every hour with different conditions. We had a dramatic start to yesterday but now the car is working, the team has worked hard to prepare the car. The damage wasn’t too bad yesterday but it is important to have the spare parts for the race. This was the reason we decided to stay in the box yesterday and to run today. Ricardo (Pera) and Raymond (Narac) have been out in the car preparing for the first race.
“Everything is different from the Michelin Le Mans Cup, from the car to the rules. Also the competition is different because Ferrari pushes hard in this class. Proton Competition is very experienced in the ELMS and the WEC and, for us, the focus is the future in the ELMS and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Le Mans is our dream and our important event this season and we have the possibility to have a good result this season.”
The first race of the 2018 ELMS will be the 4 Hours of Le Castellet on Sunday 15 April.
