ELMS Champions Go for Glory at the Daytona 24

This weekend is the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the first of the high-profile endurance events of the 2022 season, with no less than 14 ELMS champions on the grid in Florida.  The Rolex 24 at Daytona is Round 1 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the race will start on Saturday 29 and conclude on Sunday 30 January.

2020 ELMS LMP2 Champion Filipe Albuquerque will be taking part in the DPi category, joining the crew of the no10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 in the seven-car entry that will be vying for the overall win at Daytona.

The LMP2 class will feature eight ELMS champions amongst the ten-car grid.2021 ELMS LMP2 Champion Louis Deletraz will be racing alongside 2018 LMP3 Champion John Farano in the no8 Tower Motorsport Oreca 07-Gibson, while 2020 LMP2 Champion Phil Hanson will be racing for ELMS regulars United Autosports in the no 22 Oreca 07-Gibson.

2014 and 2019 LMP2 Champion Paul Loup Chatin will be racing the no18 Era Motorsport Oreca, with 2016 LMP2 Champion Harry Tincknell joining the crew of the no11 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca-Gibson.Tincknell’s 2016 championship winning teammate Giedo Van Der Garde will be racing in the no29 Racing Team Nederland Oreca.

ELMS LMP2 Pro-Am Championship winning team G-Drive Racing by APR are entering two cars in Florida this weekend, with the no69 Oreca being driven by reigning Pro-Am Drivers Champion, and 2017 LMP3 Champion, John Falb.

2019 LMP3 Champion Mikkel Jensen will be racing the no52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca, with one of his three teammates being multiple 24 Hours of Le Mans and ELMS race winner Nico Lapierre.

The GT Daytona Pro class will feature two ELMS champions, with 2019 ELMS LMGTE and current FIA World Endurance GT Champion Alessandro Pier Guidi racing the no62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3, while 2020 ELMS LMGTE Champion Alessio Picariello will be joined by ELMS and MLMC regulars Matteo Cairoli, Julien Andlauer and Cooper MacNeil in the no79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 GT3R.

The 22-car strong GT Daytona class will feature three former ELMS champions with 2016 LMGTE champion Darren Turner and 2020 LMP3 Champion Tom Gamble racing together in the no27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3. 2019 LMGTE Champion Nicklas Nielsen will be part of the driver line up in the no21 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3.

As well as these 14 champions, there are plenty of other familiar names from the ELMS throughout the 61-car grid this weekend.
